Chinawhite and Chinatown

Last Friday night I went with Caroline and 3 of her friends to Chinawhite.... below is a review I found in the internet.
"You probably already know the doorway of Chinawhite. You might not have been there, you might not have even heard of the place, but if you've ever seen a picture of Jordan, Jodie Marsh or any other celebrity hotty in the tabloids "coming out of a London nightclub" it's a good bet that they're stumbling out of Chinawhite.The club itself oozes the decadence of the East. Inside, in the main rooms, there are soft, bed-like lounging areas where you lie more than sit. The bar staff are all knowledgeable mixologists and the girls who serve bar-snacks at the tables are almost as gorgeous as the customers ... For those with money to spare, the membership list often opens again in the new year, but it'll set you back at least £650 a year, if not more. But, if you want to have a great night out and hang out with some of the most beautiful people in London town, get your glad rags on and head on down - just make sure you've a back-up plan if they don't let you in."
Although we didn't spot any celebrities (though even if they were there, probably wouldn't have recognised them ... am very out of touch with what's going in in celebrity-land), people-watching at Chinawhite was actually quite fun. Particularly since most of the people there were quite attractive and trendily dressed. However, although quite a fun experience and night out, it was probably a bit too "meat markety" and pretentious and to be really "me". Would rather go to a salsa club, milonga, or a Strawberry Moon-type place I think (went to Strawberry Moon a few weeks ago ... was lots of fun ... they played lots of cheesy 80s and pop music).
Sat 17th Sept
Went to Borough markets (food markets near London Bridge). Just love the place ... lots of free tastings (cheeses, chutneys and cured meats), as well as a stand where you can get freshly shucked oysters for 1 pound each (v. cheap in terms of London prices!) :) Sat night went and saw Crash. Brilliant movie. Thought provoking. Best movie I've seen in ages.
Sun 18th Sept
Had a fabulous a dim sum lunch (as well as non dim-sum chinesey dishes) at Yauatcha in Soho with Caroline, Caroline's "Budgie" Andrew, and Caroline's work colleague Eric. Quite upscale and trendy as dim sum/chinese restaurants go ... I actually found out later that it has a Michelin Star and actually made it in World Magazine's World's Top 50 Restaurants (am determined to get to the No. 1 ranked Fat Duck at some point during my stay in the UK, except that it's REALLY HARD to get a reservation!). Yummy yummy dim sum (mmmm... really good cheong fun). We also ordered other stuff like Jasmine tea marinated ribs (tender and tangy ... probably the best ribs I've ever had) and butter Mongolian lamb (mmm... buttery, peppery goodness!). Was great fun, we just kept chatting and ordering more dishes ... next thing we know, we were finishing up dessert ... 3 1/2 hours later! Though the meal ended up costing a small fortune, I consider it money well spent. Am kicking myself that I forgot to bring my camera though. Especially since I was with non-photo-taking-bring-their-cameras-with-them-everywhere folk (unlike Reen & Felix who are photo taking freaks like me).
After Yauatcha, went shopping in Chinatown and spent another small fortune on chinese groceries like noodles, green tea, hofan, chinese sausage, tamarind, young cocunut juice, pork ribs, seaweed, preserved beancurd and other handy things to have in the cupboard or freezer.
