Buenos Aires! (April 2007)
The following post was drafted in April last year ... all I had to do was attach the pictures and upload, but in the huge flight fiascos involving Iberia mistakenly canceling my ticket and issuing it to someone else, and me having to leave BsAs 3 days earlier in order to still make it in time for work on Monday (but having to go from BsAs to Santiago, Miami, NYC and then London). Absolute nightmare.
Anyway, just came home from dinner with Loreen and Angela (who's passing through town for a few days) and they said that they actually still check my blog every so often (well, Angela gets notified when her favourites links get updated) and that it was worth posting the post. So this is for you guys (and anyone else still reading this).

Gosh. One week left. So much has been going on, I don't know where to start. Firstly of all, slight change of plans since the prev post. Back when i was in the first flat, Melanie (friend from Chicago, who I met at tango in London) came to stay with me for a few days ... which became two weeks, and we decided that we liked living together so much that we went and found a two bedroom flat to share instead. The place is pretty nice and HUGE! This is my room

As expected most of my time has been spent throwing myself into the tango scene - either taking classes or going to practicas or milongas. Am trying to take at least one class each day (though it's harder on the weekends), and go to either a practica or milonga each night (though there have been a few nights where I just had to crash).
Me & Meli at the end of a milonga (around 5am-6am?)

That night was the one night I actually made it all the way til breakfast. Me, Meli, Laura (who teaches), Mariano, and Mariano's Brazilian friend who's name I can't remember, at breakfast after dancing all night. Mariano is then going to go to work, and the Brazilian friend is going to head over to class (he's a med student). People here are (especially some of the tango dancers) are seriously (in the words of whats-his-name) "livin' la vida loca".

Some tango pics (of various teachers doing their tango thing).
Lesson with Gusavo Rosas y Giselle

Lesson with Mariana Flores

Lesson with Esteban y Claudia

Feel lucky to be able to learn with some great teachers and watch some seriously amazing performances. Didn't take a pic or video cos my camera ran out of batteries, but saw the most amazing performance by Gustavo Naveira y Giselle Anne at Salon Canning one night. Gustavo's probably one of the biggest names in tango and their performance was just breathtaking. Another big named person who've I've taken a lesson with is Geraldine, this a you tube link to her dancing at the end of the movie The Tango Lesson "http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6LLuB-wP1cU"
Also have been able to see, hear and dance to some great live music.
Colour Tango (internationally famous tango orchestra)

Non-Tango stuff
Went out for drinks with "the girls" (Mel, Gina, Wendy, ???), which was fun.

Which moved on to dinner at fancy mansion-turned-restaurant.
This is me joining the bunch of trendies (except for the weird guy next to me) milling around in the part in between the house and the garden.

One of the oddest things I saw in BsAs - the toilets next to the al fresco garden area in the same complex - yes, I know ladies go to the loo in pairs ... but perhaps this is taking it a little too far?!?

Cafe culture
I just love the cafe culture here. You can just sit for hours, studying spanish, planning your classes and social activities ... or just watching the world go by.
My morning coffee at our corner cafe next to our old apartment ...

Interestingly, I noticed it was still open at 2.30am ... with still loads of people hanging around ... on a weeknight!

Food
Meat, glorious meat ... (and lots of tasty condiments and sides) [apologies for the lack of pic rotation, can't be bothered fixing it]

Dinner with Seyi (who was here for a visit from London)

Meli's cousin Alejo, who just happens to be a chef, came over (with special set of sharp knives in tow) and made dinner for us one night. Lots of fun to be had and obviously, the food was fabulous.

Easter visitor
And of course, a special mention has to be made of my a fabulous easter weekend where I received a visitor from London who came all the way here to just to see me (awwww!).
