Eating and dancing

Have spent the last few days settling in. Am trying to figure out the public transport system and where to go for tango classes (both a interrelated). The subway system is easy and fast, but has limited routes, whereas the buses are frequent go everywhere ... but you have to know which ones to take and where to get off. Luckily the streets are well numbered labelled .

Haven't been doing anything touristy so don't have many interesting pics to show. Somehow the all ones I do have happen to be food related. (I get the feeling that my blog references will tend to be related to my two greatest passions ... eating and dancing!)

Dinner my first night.

Oscar and Norma (who run the guesthouse and are really nice people), were having a gathering to celebrate Oscar's birthday. Rather than having me wandering out in the cold on my first night here, they invited me to dinner ... homemade pasta! :) Norma is the lady at the back, Oscar is the one taking the photo.

Meat and pastries

Argentina is known for having good meat, especially beef. You can get very tasty slabs of meat for a very reasonable price. The chunk of beef below cost me the equivalent of A$5. Unfortunately the vegie situation is a bit lacking. A mixed salad here = lettuce (ice berg - I know you like it Reen, but as lettuces/vegies go it's not the most interesting), onion, and tomato (which tend to be a bit mushy).


Note: when you order meat, that's exactly what you get ... meat and that's it. Salads and accompaniments are ordered separately.

The pastries here are also plentiful and cheap! The following cost me less than the equivalent of A$1.


Hablo espanol un poco
I have also started taking private Spanish classes for 2 hrs per day. I'm even getting homework! My teacher, Jimena, is great. Must remember to take a pic for my next post.
